WADA reinstates Doha anti-doping laboratory

The Doping Analysis Laboratory in Doha has had its suspension lifted and been reinstated, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) said on Thursday. The Doha laboratory, which had its accreditation suspended last November because it did not comply with international standards, can immediately resume all anti-doping activities, including the analysis of urine and blood samples.

Athletics: IAAF's Coe disappointed by lack of Russia doping progress

IAAF chief Sebastian Coe said on Thursday he was disappointed by the lack of progress being made by Russia in cleaning up its anti-doping regime and made it clear that the ban on the country's athletics federation would continue indefinitely. Speaking after a meeting of the International Association of Athletics Federations' ruling Council, Coe said obstacles had continued to be put in the path of the Taskforce appointed to oversee the transformation of Russia's anti-doping operation.

Golf: Johnson to make PGA Tour return at Wells Fargo in May

Dustin Johnson will make his first start since withdrawing from last week's U.S. Masters when he competes in the Wells Fargo Championship at Eagle Point Golf Club in North Carolina from May 4-7, the tournament's director said on Thursday. "We certainly are excited that Dustin will be joining us in Wilmington in a few weeks," Wells Fargo Championship Executive Director Kym Hougham said in a statement. "More importantly, we are glad that he is OK and will be returning to the PGA Tour."

Golf: Donald turns back clock, two shots behind at Harbour Town

Former world number one Luke Donald, looking to break through at the RBC Heritage after many close calls, shot a six-under-par 65 that left him two shots off the lead after the opening round in South Carolina on Thursday. Englishman Donald, who was tied with Canada's Graham DeLaet and American Sam Saunders in second place, made an eagle, five birdies and a bogey to hold the clubhouse lead until Bud Cauley birdied four of the final five holes to grab the outright lead.

Teen Kazakh tennis player Arashov gets two-year doping ban

Kazakhstan teenager Arsan Arashov has been banned for two years after testing positive for the banned substance meldonium, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced on Thursday. The 17-year-old, ranked 1,729th in the world, failed a test at an ITF event in Gandia, Spain in early July last year, with his suspension backdated to Sept. 30, 2016.

German judge authorizes arrest of Iraqi detained after Dortmund blasts

A German judge authorized on Thursday the arrest of a 26-year-old Iraqi man detained after an attack on a bus carrying players of a soccer team, and prosecutors said they believed he was a member of Islamic State. The Federal Prosecutor's Office said the man, identified as Abdul Beset A., had joined Islamic State in Iraq by the end of 2014 at the latest and had led a 10-man command unit there. The jihadist group controls parts of Iraq and Syria.

Steelers owner Rooney passes away at 84

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney died on Thursday, the team announced. He was 84. No cause of death was released.
