Bengaluru Metro phase II land acquisition on track
BENGALURU: The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), which is tasked with acquiring land for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), has acquired 43.30 hectares of land and expects to acquire the remaining 59 hectares in the next six months to one year.
BMRCL is spending Rs 5,000 crore to acquire the total 102.02 hectares, or 252 acres, said managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola. The stretches between Mysuru Road and Kengeri metro stations, Yelachenahalli and Anjanapura Township metro stations, and RV Road and Bommasandra metro stations have made the most progress in land acquisition. The stretches between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield and Nagasandra and Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre are not far behind but the Gottigere-Nagawara stretch hasn't made much progress.
Of the 21.25 hectares of land identified for acquisition for the RV Road Bommasandra line, KIADB has acquired 20.75 hectares. “A small portion of land belonging to Central Silk Board and a few properties on RV Road are yet to be acquired,“ an official said.
On the Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield extension stretch, BMRCL is in the possession of 9.09 hectares of land while the land identified for acquisition is 18.26 hectares. A KIADB official said the land required to build a Metro line from Lowry Memorial School near KR Puram to Whitefield has been acquired. “About 1 km of land from Tin Factory (on Swamy Vivekananda Road) to Lowry Memorial School will be acquired shortly ,“ the official said.
While the land required for Metro stations and viaduct on the Mysuru Road-Kengeri and Yelachenahalli Anjanapura Township stretches is in possession of BMRCL, KIADB is yet to acquire about a kilometre of land along the stretch from the Kengeri Metro station to Challaghatta and Anjanapura, where depots are coming up.
On Mysuru Road, BMRCL owns an additional four hectares of land, which it is likely to use for commercial development and to create parking space. Along the Dairy CircleNagawara stretch, though, land acquisition has been slow. “We will acquire land on the elevated stretch from Gottigere to Dairy Circle shortly while the underground section needs at least a year's time,“ another KIADB official said.
