Kudla Kala Mela on April 15 and 16

On the occasion of World Art Day 2017, Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi will organise Kudla Kala Mela, an exhibition of paintings, photographs, installation art, sculpture and other art works at Kadri Park in Mangaluru on April 15 and 16.

Addressing reporters in Mangaluru on Tuesday, Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi secretary Ananthapadmanabha said that artistes from various districts of Karnataka and Kerala will take part in the fair and will display their works in the 150 stalls, featuring 10,000 artworks on the venue.

The students of various art schools will also participate. It is an open-air art exhibition to promote contemporary art.

Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo will inaugurate Kudla Kala Mela at Kadri Park at 10 am on April 15. MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik will inaugurate various stalls. Kishore Alva, executive director of Adani UPCL, Padubidri, will inaugurate the exhibition of stalls where the best works of ‘Varna Siri’ and ‘Chitra Siri’ programmes organised by Alva’s Education Foundation will be displayed.

Deputy Commissioner Dr K G Jagadeesha, Mangala Kidney Foundation director Dr Ganapathy, MUDA chairman Suresh Ballal and others will be present. Mangaluru City Corporation Mayor Kavith Sanil will preside over the programme.

Karnataka’s youngest artist Shabari Ganiga, artists P S Acharya and Chitramitra will demonstrate their art on the occasion. A painting competition ‘Prathibhanweshane’ will be held for children at 10 am on April 16.

A workshop ‘Bhavantharanga’ will be held at 2 pm on April 15, where creation of artworks using thermofoam and clay will be taught. Another workshop ‘Manotharanga’ will be held at 4.30 pm. A sitar recital will be presented by Madhusudan Kumar and troupe, Mumbai.

A workshop on cartoon drawing ‘Rekhantharanaga’ will be held at 2 pm on April 16 and will be inaugurated by cartoonist and music composer V Manohar. A painting demonstration by the students of Swaroopa Adhyayana Kendra will be held at 4 pm. Vishwas Krishna and troupe will present a violin recital at 5 pm.

The valedictory programme will be held at 6 pm. Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva will preside and Dr B A Vivek Rai, former vice chancellor of Kannada University, Hampi, will be the chief guest. Special achievement award will be conferred on artists Dinesh Holla and Ganesh Somayaji on the occasion.

The organising committee has designed a QR code to provide details on Kudla Kala Mela. Organising Committee coordinator Vishwas Krishna said the initiate was to promote the Digital India concept.
