Company added 10,000 sites last year
Telecom tower company Indus Towers on Wednesday said it has expanded from 35,000 green sites in 2013-14 to 50,461 green sites in 2015-16 in an attempt towards protecting the environment.
In 2014-15, it had a total of 40,505 green sites, across the country.
The company has also lowered the energy consumption in mobile towers by 25-30 per cent by converting indoor sites to outdoor, and carbon emissions have also been reduced, achieving a reduction of around 10.39 per cent in diesel consumption in 2015-16, it said.
The company has also converted half of its tower portfolio to outdoor sites to ensure minimal energy consumption, it said, in the recently launched third edition of its annual Sustainability Report for 2015-16.
“We conduct our business with integrity focusing on protecting the environment and being socially responsible. Sustainability thus defines the way we operate and maintain our relationship with our stakeholders,” Bimal Dayal, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Towers said.
Founded in 2007, Indus Towers Ltd has been promoted under a joint venture among Bharti Infratel, Vodafone India and Aditya Birla Telecom (Idea), who collaborated to share telecom infrastructure.
Indus has over 1,22,044 towers, across India.
