As many as 251 complaints have been received till March this year by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, regarding rampant encroachment of public properties, the Centre today said.
The SDMC has informed that several complaints are received online, through Public Grievance Monitoring System (PGMS), Central Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) and RTI, etc., regarding encroachments on public property, including Dakshin Puri Extension area, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said.
The civic body has also informed that complaints received online and through RTI applications are not segregated in different categories.
"As per report of all zones of SDMC, a total of 251 complaints were received during the year 2017 (upto March 31), which included four complaints in respect of Dakshin Puri Extension area," he said.
Ahir also responded to another question on the government's plan to clear Delhi's Chandani Chowk of unauthorised occupation and restore it to its original design.
"The Delhi government has informed that the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation (SDRC) in coordination with other agencies, is working for pedestrianisation of the Chandani Chowk Road.
"The progress of this project is also being monitored by the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi in writ petition (civil) titled as 'Manushi Sangathan Vs. Govt, of NCT of Delhi and Ors.," he said.
The Delhi High Court in February had said that no cycle rickshaw without proper registration would be allowed to enter or ply in the crowded Chandni Chowk market here after March 31.
The court was hearing pleas filed by NGO Manushi Sangathan and others in 2007 on the issue of redevelopment of the walled city and creation of lanes for non-motorised vehicles.
The bench had earlier also said that once the rickshaws are registered and the people cycling on them are licensed, they can be allowed to ply in Chandni Chowk as a mode of public transport when motorised vehicles are banned from the area.
Chandani Chowk, famed for its old market lining the historic street, was built in the Moghul era by Emperor Shahjehan, and is a big draw for both domestic and foreign tourists.
