The BSF has seized Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) of the face value of Rs 6.96 lakh in Rs 2,000 denomination from West Bengal's Malda district, an official statement said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip off, Border Security Forces troopers of Malda district's Churiantpur outpost laid an ambush near the fence gate of the India-Bangladesh border on Monday night and seized the fake notes from the spot, it said.

"The BSF recovered FICN of the face value of Rs 6.96 lakh in Rs 2,000 denominations wrapped in five plastic packets, near the Churiantpur border outpost at around 11.45 p.m. on Monday," R.P.S. Jaswal of BSF's South Bengal frontier said in a press release.

"The miscreants present at the Indian side to collect the FICN were challenged by the troopers but managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness" he added.
