The rangoli and painting competitions organised by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as part of its Kempegowda Day celebrations on Monday on its premises, witnessed the participation of over 20 women corporators.

The mundane BBMP office came alive with colours as the corporators turned artists and unleashed their creative potential. Using tea strainers as colour brushes and salt and pepper containers to sprinkle colours, the artists innovated to create colourful rangolis that were embellished with leaves and flowers.

While most of the participants showcased their art through flowers and artistic designs, there were some who chose to spread social messages like ‘Clean Bengaluru, Better Bengaluru’ and ‘Segregate Waste for a Cleaner City’ through their art.

“I look forward to these competitions as they help me showcase my passion. While most of our days are filled with finding solutions to people’s complaints, events like these help us indulge in our interests,” said Deepa Nagesh, corporator from Sri Ram Mandir ward.

“The competition is a break from our everyday routine. It helps us unwind and paint our blues away. Owing to my busy schedule, I never get to draw or paint and events like these help me do just that,” said Pratibha Dhanraj, corporator from , Dharmaraya Swamy Temple ward.

The competition also saw the participation of the BBMP women staff ranging from the peons to the revenue officers. “The participants are very talented as their presentations show. It is great to see the creative side of women who are responsible custodians of the city,” said H K Veeresh, an artist and a drawing teacher who judged the event.

“Events like these not only help us enjoy our passions but also help bond with each other,” said Shanthakumari, BBMP employee who participanted in the event.Benniganahalli corporator, Meenakshi, got the first prize while Kumari Palanikanth, corporator from Dayanandanagar ward was the second prize winner.Pratibha Dhanraj bagged the third prize.
