Can disqualified BCCI members attend ICC meeting? SC to decide on April 17

MUMBAI: The Supreme Court will hear on April 17, the petition, on whether or not the disqualified office bearers of BCCI and its state associations can be nominated to attend the ICC meetings.

The petition was filed by the court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) of the BCCI seeking clarification from the apex court.

The CoA had requested for an urgent intervention from the Supreme Court in the matter, as BCCI was to hold its first special general meeting (SGM) since the court disqualified Anurag Thakur and other BCCI administrators as per the Lodha Committee recommendations.

The primary objective of the SGM, which was to be held on Sunday, April 9, was the appointment of BCCI's representatives to the ICC meetings. However, the SGM was adjourned till April 12, after the board decided to wait for the Supreme Court's verdict on the eligibility of the members who can represent Indian board in the meeting.

Incidentally, some of the administrators and state associations are trying to get former BCCI president N Srinivasan as BCCI's representative, who was ousted of BCCI post IPL spot-fixing scandal in 2013.

Srinivasan, who was instrumental in pushing for India's interest and the existing revenue sharing formula, was reportedly present at the SGM, despite being warned by the CoA.

The SGM was also attended by Rajiv Shukla, Niranjan Shah, Sourav Ganguly and CK Khanna.
