MK Stalin wants Election Commission to take action for distribution of cash

CHENNAI: DMK Working President MK Stalin today urged the Election Commission to take action against those involved in distribution of cash in RK Nagar assembly constituency, following which the by-poll was cancelled.

In a statement here, he said this had to be done in order to ensure that irregularities do not occur whenever elections are conducted in Tamil Nadu.

"The Election Commission's decision to rescind the RK Nagar by-poll is only a temporary initiative to conduct a free and fair poll", Stalin said.

"I request the Election Commission to take steps in such a way so that irregularities don't occur not only when by-elections are conducted but also when general elections are held in Tamil Nadu", he said.

Stalin also urged the Commission to take action against those involved in distribution of cash in RK Nagar as the incident took place despite the presence of a large number of police personnel, flying squads and special observers in the constituency.

The EC had yesterday cancelled the April 12 by-poll to the RK Nagar Assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu over the use of money power to influence voters.
