A here today sentenced a man five years' rigarous imprisonment for murdering his friend during a drunken brawl in the city a year ago.

The prosecution case was that Selvaraj, a goldsith and his friend Rafeeq, were having a drinking session in the former's house on March 27 last year.



There erupted some quarrel under influence of liquor, during which Selvaraj broke a beer bottle and pierced into the stomach of Rafeeq and escaped.

Though the friends and relatives took Rafeeq to a hospital, he died before reaching there.

Selvaraj was in connection with the incident.

Sessions Judge M Christopher (In-charge) sentenced Selvaraj to five years RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000.
