April 8 (The Sports Xchange) - Point guard Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors was officially ruled out for Saturday night's game against the New Orleans Pelicans because of a left knee contusion.

Curry was considered doubtful to play after sitting out Friday's practice.

The two-time NBA MVP sustained the injury in Wednesday night's 120-111 win at Phoenix when he scored 42 points.

Curry has appeared in 77 of 79 games this season, averaging 25.3 points and 6.6 assists, while shooting 46.8 percent from the field including 40.8 percent on 3-pointers.

Saturday's game marks teammate Kevin Durant's first game back after missing five weeks because of a knee injury. His reunion with Curry will have to wait for another day.

DeMarcus Cousins (sore right Achilles) and Anthony Davis (left knee) will be out for the Pelicans, who have been eliminated from the playoffs.

The Dallas Mavericks plan to honor former quarterback Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys at their home finale on Tuesday night.

Sources told ESPN that the Mavericks, who are out of playoff contention, intend to have Romo sit on the bench and in uniform for their final regular-season home date against the Denver Nuggets.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said this week that the club would be looking to add "a pass-first point guard" because of injuries. Sources told ESPN that Cuban was referring to Romo.

Romo, who turns 37 on April 21, announced Tuesday that he was retiring after 14 seasons with the Cowboys to accept a job as the lead game analyst for CBS-TV.

Romo will join Jim Nantz on CBS' top broadcast team. Romo replaces Phil Simms, whose new role has yet to be determined.
