New Delhi, April 7:
Tracking a firm trend overseas, silver prices surged Rs 251 to Rs 42,796 per kg at the futures trade as traders built up fresh positions.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in far-month July spurted Rs 251 or 0.59 per cent to Rs 42,796 per kg in a business turnover of 47 lots.
Similarly, the white metal for delivery in May was trading higher by Rs 242 or 0.57 per cent at Rs 42,335 per kg in 529 lots.
Market analysts said fresh positions were created by participants in line with a firm trend in global markets due to geopolitical concerns.
Meanwhile, silver rose 0.90 per cent to $18.40 an ounce in Singapore.
