Anil Ambani's Unlimit ties up with German cloud software provider Cumulocity

MUMBAI: Unlimit, an Anil Ambani-owned Internet of Things venture, has tied up with German cloud-based software provider Cumulocity in its efforts to build a product and services portfolio in the emerging space of connected devices.

Through a new platform called Enablement, the two companies will offer a slew of new products and services under a revenue-sharing model, they said on Thursday. IoT, where machines connected to the Internet talk to each other and swap real-time data and information to perform specific actions, is a major focus area for companies globally as the technology promises to play a part in almost every sphere of human life.

Enablement will help businesses connect any device over any network and manage and store asset data, by controlling them in real-time by monitoring device availability and administer and rectify device faults.

"With the number of connected devices in India projected to rise from 200 million today to 3 billion by 2020, nearly every part of the economy will be positively impacted by IoT," Unlimit chief executive Juergen Hase said in a statement.

Launched in 2016, Unlimit had earlier inked a pact with Cisco Jasper, a cloudbased IoT firm. The newly launched product line on the Enablement platform will focus on areas like automation, healthcare, financial services and asset tracking, and can be used across the globe and tailored to suit the demands of the Indian market, the statement said.

Unlimit hired 30 employees within a few months of its launch and is adding 8-15 people every month, as the company expands services. Although independent of Reliance Communications, Unlimit uses the 2G, 3G and 4G networks of the Anil Ambani-controlled telecoms operator.

This year, the company launched Interthrone, an idea contest where startups and young companies have been asked to send their ideas.

"In six months, we will see the ideas that come in, select the best and work with them," Hase said.

"About 500 groups have already registered for it and there are teams of three in each. This means 1,500 people are already working on this. For Internet of Things, you need ideas from the market." Hase said although the industry is going through tough times, one can look at it as a risk or as an opportunity.
