MakeMyTrip launching #BackToFuture programme for women technologists to get back to work

BENGALURU: Online travel company MakeMyTrip is launching a programme, #BackToFuture, aimed at providing women technologists who have taken a break in their career an avenue to get back to the workplace.

In doing so, it joins companies such as Goldman Sachs, Genpact, Target and Intuit, which have launched similar programmes to help women transition back to work. The programme is specifically designed for women professionals who have been on a career break for at least two years and are ready to make a comeback.

The Gurgaon-based company plans to provide skill advancement, mentoring, industry exposure and work experience in the form of a 24-week paid internship, after which it will take back some employees in roles of frontend developer, backend developer and test engineer.

"The #BackToFuture programme will help us focus on women seeking to make a re-entry into the workforce," Yuvaraj Srivastava, group chief human resource officer at Make-MyTrip told ET.

"We have been focusing on improving our gender diversity numbers for many years now; currently women make up approximately 30 per cent of our workforce. We are still looking to bring up these numbers and making concentrated efforts to do so by tilting the scale towards women during campus recruitment."

The bi-annual programme will be run in two batches – one in the Gurgaon office and another in the Bengaluru centre – with 20-25 women participating in each batch. "After the internship, we will take a call on absorbing participants within our workforce," said Srivastava.
