Compulsory 80% attendance for 9 to 12th students to Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: 80 per cent attendance may soon become compulsory for students of classes IX to XII of Uttar Pradesh government schools while a bio-metric attendance mechanism will be put in place for teachers.

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in the state has also readied a draft of the ordinance planned to regulate school fees charged by private schools and put it up on the website of the secondary education department for suggestions.

"We are planning to make 80 per cent attendance of students (from classes 9th to 12th) compulsory. At the same time biometric system of attendance would also be made mandatory for teachers," Principal Secretary Jitendra Kumar said.

He added that the state government has already uploaded a draft Act of the ordinance pertaining to the school fees charged by private schools on the official website of the secondary education department.

"Suggestions have also been invited from the public. A committee of the department will also study the similar drafts of different states including Punjab and Gujarat," he said.

The Uttar Pradesh government is considering to bring ordinance to regulate admissions and fees.

Director Secondary Education A N Verma said that these points are consideration of the government.
