Age criteria relaxed for Class 1 admission
Bengaluru, Apr 7,2017,DHNS:
The age criteria for admission to Class 1, which is 5 years and 10 months, will not be applicable for children who have completed Kindergarten, according to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
The age criteria will come into effect from the academic year 2017-18 and, for admission to LKG, children will have to be 3 years and 10 months old.
Earlier, due to the lack of a specific age criteria, parents would admit their children to kindergarten as early as at the age of 3. As a result, these children do not meet the new age criteria, even if they have completed kindergarten. Owing to this, the DPI received complaints from parents that private schools were not providing admission.
However, the director for Primary Education, K Anand clarified that children who completed kindergarten may be admitted to Class 1, even if they do not meet the age criteria.
