Bengaluru: According to RTI activist Narsimha Murthy, VK Sasikala is enjoying VVIP treatment at the Parapanna Agrahara jail. Although inmates are allowed only two visitors every month, including lawyers, family and friends, Sasikala has been visited by at least 14 people in 31 days.

As per the rules laid down for ordinary convicts, no visitor is allowed to meet them beyond 5 pm. However, visitors to Sasikala's cell stayed past 6 pm.

Besides Sasikala's advocates, the jail record has listed several senior AIADMK leaders, including Deputy Speaker Thambidurai and her nephew TTV Dinakaran -- who is also the candidate for the forthcoming by-election in Chennai's RK Nagar constituency. He has visited her twice.

In a blatant violation of the jail manual, visitors have been pouring in to meet Sasikala every single day. Sasikala was sentenced to a four-year term at the Bengaluru jail on February 15 following her conviction in a disproportionate assets case.

Although the Supreme Court had ruled that she would be treated like any other inmate in the jail premises, it is evident that Sasikala is being treated as a VVIP convict.
