As per the order, all primary, middle, secondary and higher secondary schools which operate in single shift across the state from 7 AM to 11 AM till further notice, an education department official said today.

The schools which run two shifts have been ordered to conduct lower classes (primary and middle) from 7 AM to 11 AM and senior classes (secondary and higher secondary) from 11 AM to 4 PM, he said.

The timings of the Anganwadis (the run women and child care centres) have also been changed and they will function from 8 AM till 11 AM, he added.

Meanwhile, an official of the Raipur-based Meteorological centre saidthe mercury soared to 40 degree Celsius and above in many parts of in the last couple of days.

Today, the highest temperature of 42.9 degree Celsius was recorded in Bilaspur while Raipur was at 41 degree Celsius, he said.

Dry weather is likely to prevail over for next three days, he said.

The department has also forecast a rise in temperature in the next few days.
