South division police crack 40 cases, arrest 11, recover booty

The South division police have detected 40 cases by arresting 11 pe­o­ple and recovered gold, silver ornaments and vehicles.

The police recovered 1.5 kg of gold ornaments, 850 gm silver articles, a car, four two-wheelers and Rs 23,000 from the suspects. Some stolen properties recovered by the police were returned to the rightful owners. “We are eager to return the stolen properties to rightful owners as we feel there is no point storing them in police stations where space is a constraint,” said Commissioner of Police Praveen Sood. As and when the recoveries are made, the police write to the courts for orders on returning them, he added.

The Girinagar police have arrested five inter-state thieves, including two women, for house burglaries at night and pick-pocketing during day. They are Nagaraj alias Handhi (48), his daughter Amaravathi alias Padamma (32), Srinivas alias Seena (40), Bhagyamma (55), all residents of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu and Thimmaiah (30), a resident of Anekal taluk.

During the day, the gang travelled by BMTC buses, targeted passengers and stole wallets and valuables from their bags. During night, the gang broke into locked houses and committed burglaries. The police have detected 13 cases and have recovered 470 gm gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh along with duplicate keys, levers and Rs 20,000 from them.

Personnel of the newly inaugurated Puttenahalli police station detected 18 theft cases, including four house burglaries, and arrested two notorious burglars identified as Santosh alias Yemme (27), a resident of Sunkadakatte and Sagar (24), a resident of Mandya. The police have recovered 900 gm of gold, 850 gm of silver worth Rs 32.37 lakh from the suspects. They have solved theft cases in JP Nagar, Puttenahalli, Mico Layout, Konanakunte and Banashankari police stations.

The Hanumanthanagar police have arrested two associates of Kunigal Giri, who used to attack lone people at night with lethal weapons before robbing them of their valuables. The arrested are Krishna alias KK (31) and Shashi Kumar alias Shashi (24), both residents of Sunkadakatte. The police have detected 10 cases and have recovered 130 gm of gold ornaments and four two-wheelers from them.
