A woman and her 10-month-old daughter died after allegedly consuming poison at a village in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, the police said today.
The incident took place at Chhatraamba Vegidihi under jurisdiction of Kaptipada police station last night, following a quarrel between the woman and her husband over some trivial issues, said Inspector in-charge of Kaptipada police station, Brajabandhu Nayak.
The woman, identified as Jema Singh (21) took her daughter to a nearby forest where she allegedly consumed pesticide and fed the same to the infant, police said.
Later, both were found in serious condition and taken to the Kaptipada Community Health Centre (CHC) where the infant died during treatment, police said.
The mother died while being shifted to a hospital in Baripada from CHC, the IIC said.
