Intelenet okay to lose a bit in automation push
BENGALURU: Intelenet, which wants to reach $1 billion in revenue by 2020, is building automation products in the areas of healthcare and transport that will cut into its revenue in the short term, in order to help win new customers in the next few years.
In healthcare, the BPO firm has built a platform called Radius, which will help its customers schedule home visits by nurses.
"This effectively is like an Uber for nurses providing home services. You can track them and roster them more efficiently. But this could work for any business that needs field support services," CEO of Intelenet, Bhupender Singh told ET.
The automation platform reduces the number of people required to perform the task by 80%. To reach its $1-billion target, Intelenet is focusing on 'new horizon offerings' such as robotics, analytics and mobility.
And automation is crimping the company's growth in the short term; it expects better pay-offs in the future. "If I can do an operation with 80% fewer people, then yes, it does initially hurt my revenue. But with this product, I can go to customers being served by my competition and offer them a similar 80% improvement and that is a winning proposition," Singh said.
He added BPO customers are no longer looking for 5-10% efficiency improvements. "They are asking for a step change of 20% improvements on a project that is already offshored and been improved. That can only happen with automation."
