Conditions close to heatwave have been prevailing in Telangana and Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh due to the hot and humid south/southeasterly winds blowing from the Bay of Bengal.

The hot conditions, which the IMD said would prevail for another week, made life difficult for those venturing out on work. On Saturday, the temperature in Hyderabad touched 42 degrees Celsius, forcing people to largely stay indoors.

The mercury touched record levels in March and continued the relentless climb with Nizamabad (41), Karimnagar (41), and Adilabad , Nalgonda and Warangal (39) experiencing xtremely hot weather.

In Andhra Pradesh, Kurnool sizzled at 42 degrees Celsius, followed by Anantapur and Tirupati with 41 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius, respectively.

This was in contrast to Vijayawada and Guntur (38 degrees Celsius) and Visakhapatnam (32 degrees Celsius).

Satellite-based weather forecasting agencies predicted temperatures up to 42 or 43 degrees Celsius in the coming days in many parts of Telangana and Rayalaseema, with partly cloudy weather on Sunday offering a mild reprieve.

The soaring temperatures have prompted animal lovers to urge residents to keep water tubs for stray dogs and other animals to stay hydrated. With many puddles and water bodies drying up, birdwatchers have also asked residents to keep bowls of water in their balconies for the avian friends.

Religious organisations have set up water stations in many places to offer cold water to citizens. Drivers and conductors of buses here, who make several trips, also fill their bottles with water from these chalivendrams. Coconut and soft drink vendors are doing roaring business as people flock to these shops in large numbers.

Intense condition continues in M’rashtra

The situation, however, is expected to ease this week.

The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Observatory and Skymet Weather observatories have recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in Vidarbha, Marathwada and north Maharashtra districts.

Thundershower occurred in Satara district of western Maharashtra on Saturday, the IMD said as it forecast rain or thundershower in Marathwada on Sunday.

Akola, Wardha and Chandrapur districts in Vidarbha recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius, while Jalgaon and Malagaon in north Maharashtra, Nagpur in Vidarbha and Nanded in Marathwada recorded 43 degrees Celsius.
