NCP member wants blue print on abattoirs

NEW DELHI: Amid a crackdown on illegal slaughter houses in Uttar Pradesh, an NCP member in Lok Sabha today demanded a blue print to specify that genuine abattoirs are not targeted on "flimsy" ground.

Alleging that there is an environment of "fear", NCP's Tariq Anwar said the government should come up with a blue print to address the issue of the 50,000 crore meat industry.

BJP member Ravindra Kumar Rai wanted the government to come up with a bill that will disallow converts from the SC/ST and tribal communities from taking dual benefits meant for backward classes and minorities.

"There should be legislation, which should disallow converts from taking dual benefits," Rai said.

N K Premachandran (RSP) said the Indian Rare Earth Ltd, a PSU under the Department of Atomic Energy, has not returned land taken from fishermen in his Kollam constituency for mining purpose.

"The mining work got completed a decade ago, but the land has still not been returned to poor fishermen. I urge the central government to decide on the matter at the earliest," Premachadran said.

Bidyut Mahato, BJP member from Jharkhand, demanded forest clearance for uranium mines, which were shut over three years back.

Highlighting the issue of chilly farmers, especially in Andhra Pradesh, TDP's Jayadev Galla demanded buying of chillies from peasents at Rs 12,000 per quintal due to steep fall in the price of the crop.

K Suresh (Congress) also brought to light the plight of paddy farmers in the state, hit by drought, and demanded that the government buy the crop from peasents at the earliest.
