Rajasthan Assembly today witnessed noisy scenes and two adjournments as the ruling BJP and Congress members slugged it out over the issue of allegations levelled by an opposition party MLA against a state cabinet minister.
While BJP members sought action against the MLA for making public, proceedings which were frozen by the chair, Congress members demanded that the proceedings be defrozen.
On Tuesday, Congress MLA Ramesh Meena had leveled corruption charges against a state government minister and a debate the Chair reserved its decision on the matter.
Today, the ruling BJP today moved a privilege motion against Meena for allegedly having made public those proceedings.
During the Zero Hour, Parlimentary Affair Minister Rajendra Rathore brought privilege motion against Meena demanding strict punishment to an extent of termination of membership, which other BJP MLAs supported.
Rathore tabled a CD to prove that Meena had made the proceedings public. Seeking to hit back, the Congress moved a privilege motion against a ruling party MLA on similar grounds.
The Assembly was adjourned twice following Congress members' protests.
Opposition Whip Govind Singh Dotasra showed a receipt to prove that a notice was served to the concerned minister before Meena made the allegations. The minister had denied receiving any notice.
As the Zero Hour began, Congress legislators tried raising the issue of allegations made by Meena. BJP members maintained that the matter should not be raised during the Zero Hour. However Congress members demanded a decision from the Speaker.
Amidst uproar, the house was adjourned.
When the house resumed, Deputy speaker Rao Rajendra Singh clarified that the privilege motion against the Congress member was not on issue raised ubut on charges that the proceedings were made public by him despite the chair freezing it.
Senior BJP MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari demanded that the matter should be forwarded to committee in order to verify facts. The chaos forced a second adjournment of the House as well.
Speaker Kailash Meghwal on Tuesday had freezed the proceeding where Meena leveled corruption charges against a minister.
