Stay on proceedings against BBMP official extended
BENGALURU: March 31, 2017, DHNS
The Karnataka High Court on Thursday extended the stay granted on the proceedings against Mayanna, a first division assistant working in the Major Roads and Infrastructure Department in BBMP.
Mayanna has been accused of misappropriating funds of Rs 68 crore. There was a Rs 138-crore scam in the BBMP during 2012-2015 of which Rs 68 crore is the amount misappropriated by Mayanna. Robert Muniswamy David had registered a private complaint against Mayanna with the BMTF. A probe is being conducted by the Additional Chief Secretary into the scam. Mayanna approached the court contending that BMTF does not have the jurisdiction to file an FIR and investigate the matter.
However, the counsel representing Robert argued that Mayanna’s name figures in the BBMP’s audit report and about the amount for which he has issued cheques. The counsel also said that if there is a loss to the state’s exchequer, then BMTF can investigate into the matter. Justice Anand Byrareddy extended the stay granted on the proceedings and adjourned the next hearing to Monday.
