Govt awards 128 air routes under regional connectivity scheme
NEW DELHI: The aviation ministry today announced that the first regional flight under the Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) scheme will start from next month.
“We expect that the first regional flight will start from next month,” said aviation secretary R N Choubey.
The government today announced that they have selected 27 proposal filed by five airlines, who will together connect about 128 routes across the country. Through this scheme, the government will provide connectivity to 31 more airports in the country.
“In a century of civil aviation, only 76 airports connected with scheduled commercial flights. In one year since aviation policy was announced, 31 more unserved airports will get connectivity,” Choubey further said.
With the UDAN scheme, the government aims at providing air travel options to people at a subsidised airfare of Rs 2,500 per hour of flight.
The government said that they will have a subsidy outlay of Rs 205 crore for the first year of operation of regional flights.
