Will take action against staff insulting flag: Oppo

NEW DELHI: Chinese handset maker Oppo said it will take serious action against those responsible for the alleged incident, in which one or more company officials reportedly tore a picture of the Indian flag and threw it in the dustbin.

Sources at the ministry of external affairs said they were finding out the facts of the case while Oppo said is it probing the incident while cooperating with authorities.

"We deeply regret this unfortunate incident and are paying serious attention to this matter. We are cooperating with the authorities concerned and will be taking appropriate actions," the company said in an official statement Tuesday evening.

The Chinese smartphone maker, which has rapidly risen up the ranks to be counted among the top five smartphone makers in India, said it had "deep respect for India and its people," adding it is a "responsible employer."

The incident, which allegedly involved disrespecting the Indian flag, triggered protests in front of the company's Noida office, while some people took to social media to criticise the company for its alleged anti-national actions.

Some demanded strict action by the government against the Chinese company, while a few reached out to newly appointed UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Twitter, to look into this matter.
