The Shiv Sena was formed with the slogan “Maharashtra for Maharashtrians” and is known for its offensive attitude towards Indians from other states. Thus, it is not at all surprising that the party is supporting its MP Ravindra Gaikwad after his assault on an Air India official for not being allotted business class seat in an all-economy flight. If the Sena politicians continue to behave in such a brazen fashion, the public would decide its response at the right time. Here one expects the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership, which swears by values and probity in public life, to set an example by allowing the law to take its own course. Politicians should understand that just because they are lawmakers they cannot break the law with impunity.
