Andhra Pradesh making new development strain by citizens equal partners: Chandrababu Naidu

By Chandrababu Naidu

June 1, 2014 was a defining moment in the history of Andhra Pradesh, having witnessed the formation of an unscientific division which left the state with a revenue deficit alongside a major shortfall in industrial, social and educational infrastructure.

Under these circumstances, the leadership of Andhra Pradesh undertook the mammoth task of redefining the state's growth story and steering the State of Andhra Pradesh in the right direction — towards growth, development, inclusivity, welfare and happiness.

The journey began by identifying the critical areas of development, which were translated into seven-focused missions. These key undertakings were meant to foster growth of the primary sector, social sector, industry sector, infrastructure, service sector, knowledge and skill, as well as urban development.

Andhra Pradesh is already witnessing a sustained doubledigit growth rate, with a growth rate of 10.99% during the year 2015-16 and 12.2% in the first two quarters of 2016-17, which is higher than the average growth rate of India, the state has positioned itself as a "power state" contributing considerably to India's growth story.

Blessed with topographical advantages such as the 974 kilometres long coastline with natural deep draft ports as well as, rich mineral and petroleum deposits, Andhra Pradesh is now looking towards accentuating these resources.

Fourteen ports, twelve airports including a mega Aerotropolis airbase, an integrated road-network of 1,23,334 km with interregion connectivity and 888 kilometres of national inland waterways are being developed.

Further, by emphasising on port-led development along the coastline, Andhra Pradesh is poised to become India’s gateway to the East. Being a power surplus state, with a current capacity to provide 24X7 power supply to industries, an additional 15,400 MW capacity will be added by 2019 to provide conducive ecosystem for investors to initiate projects in Andhra Pradesh.

Amaravati, the Greenfield capital of Andhra Pradesh, is being developed with emphasis on resilient urban infrastructure, promotion of smart technology and creation of sustainable public spaces. State-ofthe-art technology and worldclass expertise from all over the globe are being deployed to develop the capital city.

With the world witnessing a dawn of the 'Fourth Industrial Revolution', driven by IoT (Internet of Things), we either become a part of it and leapfrog, or be left behind. Andhra Pradesh is at the forefront of ushering in technology-driven development.

The state's e-Pragati platform is India's most comprehensive e-Governance platform. e-Pragati is supported by the CORE Dashboard (CM Office Real-time Executive Dashboard) which provides an interface to enable real-time monitoring of implementation activity to promote accountability and efficiency.

Millions of sensors are being used to capture data pertaining to various sectors to ensure expeditious redressal and efficient functioning of government delivery systems. Through the use of IoT, information is being disseminated and collated to develop mapping as well as predictability models to support the implementation of government initiatives.

With this, innovation and entrepreneurship are being encouraged in the state through the establishment innovation clusters and incubators to enable entrepreneurs to convert their ideas into enterprises.

With a dream of creating 'an entrepreneur in every family' an Innovation Society and a Startup Village have been established to support young entrepreneurs.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh wants to "make every dream count". By making citizens equal partners in the state's development story, Andhra Pradesh is creating its own strain of development that integrates rapid economic growth, propelled by technology and innovation with inclusive and participatory development.

The state's Vision has been aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals that offer an eclectic array, covering the entire spectrum of development priorities. As the state envisions becoming a global investment destination, new ties are being forged with international and national stakeholders, to make them partners in shaping the state's destiny.

With a culture of implementation and a mantra for transformation, the State of Andhra Pradesh is on the path towards rapid development and is taking significant strides to achieve its goal.
