A Group D employee of MJN Hospital in Coochbehar town was showcaused by the hospital authorities today for illegally engaging 12 persons in the outdoor department.

Coochbehar Mihir Goswami, who is the chairman of the patient welfare committee of the hospital, told newsmen that Nihar Kanti Chowdhury had 'appointed' the 12 persons without taking permission of the hospital authorities.



The showcaused employee in his defence said that it was his democratic right to serve patients since there was none to do the work those 12 persons were doing for quite some time.

And above all, he claimed, he gave the persons Rs 2,400 every month for their work besides tiffin expenses.

After the matter was broadcast by a private Bengali TV channel yesterday, the illegally engaged mployees vanished today and the hospital authorities brought in nurses in their places.
