A 39-year-old man, carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 in a shootout case, has been arrested, police said today.
On the basis of a tip-off, Asif alias Kala was arrested from near Batla House in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar area in the wee hours today, said DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya.
He threatened the police team with a pistol and tried to flee but was overpowered, he added.
Asif was allegedly involved in many heinous cases and had also fired on police teams in past, said the officer.
On December 1, he along with his associates Danish, Mukarram, Manish, Sunil, Goverdhan Vishvakarma and Krishan Kumar alias Langda had planned a dacoity in the area of Pul Prahladpur.
They were intercepted by police and while some of his associates were nabbed after a shootout, he managed to escape.
Last month, he had again managed to give a slip to police and flee following a shootout in which his accomplice was arrested.
Yesterday, information was received by the police about Asif coming to meet his friend at Batla House, Jamia Nagar near Escorts Hospital around 9.30 PM.
One police picket was deployed at Tikona Park, Okhla Head road, Okhla Village and one was deployed at Batla House towards Escorts Hospital. Around 1 AM today, Asif was seen coming in a car.
"On seeing police presence, he turned his car towards Okhla Head. The staff deployed at Okhla Head picket blocked the road by putting the barricade in front of the car and similarly, the car was alo blocked from the back," said the officer.
Asif allegedly took out his pistol and tried to run away from the spot but the cop snatched his pistol and overpowered him. Four live cartridges were found in the magazine of his pistol. A Swift car was also recovered from him.
