Tata Power in a BSE statement said that its ultra mega power arm Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL) is fully compliant with all social and environmental norms.
The plant’s environmental compliance has been reviewed by the Gujarat Pollution Control Board and a number of third party experts.
The statement comes in the wake of the World Bank's social and environmental accountability body, Office of the Compliance Advisor/Ombudsman (CAO) raising concerns over IFC's monitoring of the environmental issues around the plant.
IFC is an investor in CGPL.
In the statement, Tata Power said that the CAO report reflects the observations on the internal processes of the IFC and, thus, it will only be appropriate for the IFC to respond in details.
It said that last time on the same issue, the CAO's statement was not upheld by the competent authority at the World Bank.
