Booking.com partners with Paytm for promotions

NEW DELHI: Accommodation aggregator Booking.com, part of the Nasdaq-listed Priceline Group, is busy doing in India what it does best in the ordinary course of business: Aggregating partnerships.

After joining hands with India's leading travel portal, MakeMyTrip, for overseas properties this year, Booking.com has now tied up with Alibaba-backed payments bank Paytm. Under this partnership, all domestic and international accommodations available on Booking .com will be available on Paytm, with new offers and promotions.

Booking.com is present across 227 countries, with over 1.1 million hotels and accommodation properties registered with the portal. Users typically reserve about 1.2 million room-nights on n the platform everyday. The portal aims at getting the best price for all types of properties -from bed and breakfast accommodation to five-star suites.

Gillian Tans, CEO of Booking.com, said the company expanded by over 70% in India last year and has 22,000 properties registered with it. It aims to continue the same pace of growth this year as well. After China, India is the largest market for the company in the Asia-Pacific region.

"We aim to grow at the same rate this year. India is a fast-growth market and is developing a lot. We continue to increase our partners here, and make investments. We have three offices here, and will open the fourth in Kolkata in the second quarter," Tans said.
