Eight independents and the BJP's Ramachandran filed nominations before the District Collector Amit Meena, official sources said.



A total of 16 candidates are in the fray, the sources said.

Scrutiny of nominations will take place tomorrow,they said.

Former Minister and IUML National General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty is the candidate whileDYFI leader M B Faizal is the candidate.

The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of IUML leader and former Union Minister E Ahamed.
