Inspired by Yogi Adityanath, Bengal BJP to collect signature of 10 lakh people against cow slaughter

KOLKATA: Inspired by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's move to ban cow slaughtering, Bengal BJP has also decided to spread the movement in the state and put pressure on Mamata Banerjee's government to stop killings of cows.

"We have decided to go for a mass campaign against cow slaughtering. For the purpose, we will collect signatures of about 10 lakh people and send those to both the Centre and state government to urge them to stop cow slaughtering. Our move for collection of signatures will start from March 25 and will continue till May 1," Subrata Gupta, president of the Cow Development Cell (CDC) of Bengal BJP told ET on Thursday.

He said that they were demanding immediate ban on cow slaughtering and declaration of cow as national animal. He said that the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had congratulated the UP chief minister for his massive victory and it was expected that Bengal chief minister would not oppose to their move to organise movement in the state against cow slaughtering.

"We are receiving tremendous response from the districts like East and West Midnapore, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Hooghly in our fight against slaughtering of cows. We will go to Nandigram to collect signatures from the local people against killings of cows," Gupta added.

Gupta also informed that they were receiving phone calls and letters from different parts of Bengal and people were demanding a total stop in killing the innocent animal.

Earlier also, the CDC had written to the chief minister and requested her to initiate steps to stop smuggling of cows through different border districts of Bengal like Murshidabad, Malda, Nadia and North 24-Parganas.
