Titan calls Watson to time customer buys

BENGALURU: Titan is working with IBM to use its cognitive computing platform Watson to double the number of purchases its current customers make by analysing their past purchasing decisions to show them deals tailored to appeal to them.

The tie-up, in which Titan will use the Watson Customer Engagement solution and data analytics platform, is targeted at the firm's 11-million loyalty customer base and at attracting new customers to its products.

"We started discussing the digital transformation of Titan about 18 months ago. Using Watson for customer is just the first stage of the process," Dulles Krishnan, director IBM software and solutions at IBM India, told ET. Other stages involve tying in more cognitive computing and internet-of-things tech to help Titan build out its wearable products line. Titan will use Watson to create tar geted campaigns based on not just past purchases by customers but also using analytics to examine their real-time behaviour what items are looked at most, what channels are used the most, why the cart was abandoned before purchase.

Krishnan said IBM's deal will be focused on Titan's ecommerce website but would also handle integration with the Tata group's marketplace Tata Cliq and other ecommerce sites like Amazon and Flipkart.

Titan will also use IBM's platforms to drive users to its brand websites and boost footfall in stores.

In stores, sales associates will have mobile apps to provide them with details on each shopper, from past purchases to style preferences and more, so they can maintain highly-customised and personalised relationships.
