A minor girl and a 25-year-old woman drowned in a pond while trying to escape from police after a raid was conducted in Panchi ka Nagla area of Bharatpur district where a prostitution racket was allegedly being run.
The incident took place last evening when people in the area fled following the police raid and one girl and two women allegedly jumped into the pond to avoid getting caught, police sources said.
Divers were pressed into action to rescue the women, however only one of them was rescued while two others drowned. The bodies were later fished out of the water, Sewar SHO Khail Ahemad said, adding they were aged one of the victim was of 15 years in age.
The SHO, however claimed that the trio accidentally slipped into the pond following which two of them died.
The bodies were handed over to the respective family members after postmortem today, Ahemad said.
Six persons were also arrested yesterday under section 151 of CrPC from the area which is infamous for illegal activities, he said.
