BJP MLAs back in Imphal, floor test of the new government on 20th march

GUWAHATI: Ahead of crucial floor test on March 20, BJP MLAs along with two supporting MLAs which included an independent MLA and a Trinamool congress MLA have reached Imphal from Guwahati.

Fearing reverse poaching from congress, around 17 BJP MLAs were camping in a hotel in Guwahati. On Sunday 60 elected members Manipur assembly were sworn in. The trust vote will take place on March 20.

Governor Najma Heptullah appointed BJP legislator V Hangkhalian as Pro-Tem Speaker. New MLAs were administered the oath.

BJP has formed government with support of regional parties, congress deserter and Independent MLA following fractured mandate in the assembly polls.

A senior BJP leader said, “The MLAs were camping in Guwahati to thwart any attempt to poach BJP MLAs. Already eight ministers including deputy chief minister has been included in the council of minister now only four berths are left.”

He said, “Congress is offering ministerial berths and targeting to rope in four MLAs.”

Congress however denied of making any such move and said it will perform the role of opposition in assembly.
