Among the 85 Secretaries in the central government only two belong to the Scheduled Caste and as many are from the Scheduled Tribe community, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State for Personnel, Pensions and Public Grievances Jitendra Singh, in a written reply, said that there were a total of 747 officers holding the ranks of Director and above in the central government.
He also released a data giving the total number of officers holding the ranks of Director and above at the Centre under the Central Staffing Scheme.
As per the data, there were 747 officers in the ranks of Director and above, which include 85 Secretaries, 70 Additional Secretaries, 293 Joint Secretaries and 299 Directors.
Among these only 60 officers (about eight per cent) are from the Scheduled Caste and 24 (about three per cent) from the Scheduled Tribes.
At the Secretary level, only two officers are from SC and ST category each, which is 2.35 per cent of the total.
Four SC and two ST officers are at holding the ranks of Additional Secretary, 21 SC and seven ST officers the Joint Secretary, and 33 SC and 13 ST officers are at the Director level posts, the data shows.
