Bodal Chemicals buys 42% stake in water treatment chemicals maker Trion

The Ahmedabad-based Bodal Ltd has acquired 42 percent stake in Pvt Ltd, a producer of specialty for swimming pools & water treatment, for Rs 2.9 crore.

The deal is expected to help Bodal Chemicals, one of the largest manufacturers of dyes intermediate, dyestuff and sulphuric acid in India, to expand and diversify its product range. “The objective for this acquisition for the company is to expand and diversify in business of specialty apart from dyes & dye intermediates. This opens new line of activity for the company,” said Bodal in a BSE filing. 

Incorporated in April 2009, has recently completed commissioning of specialty plant at Khambhat in Anand district of Gujarat and started manufacturing (TCCA). This is a first plant in India for TCCA having export as well as domestic market potential. is mainly targeting the US market and has already acquired EPA license in the US for environment protection. 

TCCA is a disinfectant, algaecide and bactericide mainly for swimming pools and dyestuffs, and is also used as a bleaching agent in the textile industry.

Trion’s Khambhat TCCA plant has production capacity of 12,000 metric tonne per annum. It is targeting to reach a turnover of Rs 225 crore in future once the production at the plant reaches the optimum level.
