The Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has directed the political parties to hold a floor test in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday to prove their majority. Earlier, a bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and Justices Ranjan Gogoi and R.K. Agrawal refused to stay the swearing-in of BJP legislative party leader Manohar Parrikar as the Chief Minister on Tuesday. The Congress won 17 seats, while the BJP got 13 seats in the 40-seat Assembly. The Governor invited former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to form a government on March 12 after he paraded a majority 21 elected members, which included three each from the Goa Forward Party (GFP), Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and two independents.

The first budget of the K Palanisamy government, which last month won a trust vote in the Tamil Nadu assembly, will be presented on Thursday. Speaker P Dhanapal has summoned the Legislative Assembly to meet at 10.30 am. Finance Minister D Jayakumar is scheduled to present the first budget of the Palanisamy government. On February 18, the Palanisamy government had won the confidence vote in the assembly by a comfortable 122-11 margin after high drama and bedlam in the House.

Honda Cars India is to launch the compact sports utility vehicle WR-V in the country on March 16. India is the first country to manufacture and launch the Honda WR-V. The Honda WR-V is an all new premium model in the Honda family and features Honda’s global DNA. The WR-V is the first model developed by Honda R&D India in association with Honda R&D Co Ltd, Japan.

Senior Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh is to take oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on March 16. The scion of erstwhile Patiala Royal family refused to comment on the number of ministers who will be part of the new cabinet.

The third test between Australia and India gets underway in Ranchi on Thursday.
