13 NGOs blacklisted last year for irregularities: Government

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment blacklisted 13 NGOs across the country last year for violating guidelines under different schemes and committing irregularities.

Of the total, three NGOs were from Karnataka which worked for the welfare of senior citizens were blacklisted, Minister of State for Social Justice Vijay Sampla told Rajya Sabha today.

Another three organisations which worked for the cause of empowering Other Backward Classes (OBCs) have been blacklisted in Madhya Pradesh, he said.

Besides, two organisations each from Uttar Pradesh and Delhi and one apiece from Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have been blacklisted.

"There were some cases where due to violation of the guidelines of the schemes and irregularities etc, action was taken against the NGOs," Sampla said.

According to a senior official in the ministry, once blacklisted these NGOs will not be liable to receive government funds from any central or state government organisation.

The NGOs work as per the prescribed guidelines under the various schemes being implemented by the Ministry for social, economic and educational development of the SCs, OBCs, senior citizens, victims of drug abuse and persons with disabilities.
