The 4K bandwagon is progressing rapidly. A year ago, there were hardly any Ultra HD 4K content sources that users could access. Now, we have Netflix and Amazon Video, two of the most popular sources for 4K content, available at our fingertips. That justifies the investment in a 4K television. However, if you are looking for something more premium for your home theatre, you can always buy a projector.
And BenQ W11000 (Rs4.5 lakh) is the world’s first THX certified DLP 4K UHD projector.
It is hard to ignore the size of the W11000—the dimensions are 470.7x 224.9x564.7mm,and it weighs 14.8kg. There are dials for adjusting the lens vertically and horizontally. The connectivity ports are on the right side, which makes it easier to access. On either side of the lens, at the front, are the vents—one for intake, the other for blowing out warm air. This means you can place this projector right up against a wall, leaving enough space for the connectivity ports. You get 2 HDMI inputs, one of which has the HDCP 2.2 format support for 4K content sources. There is also a 12V trigger output, which can be used to automate motorized projector screens, for example.
The projector has a native resolution of 3,840x2,160, and a rated brightness of 2,200 lumens. You can get a viewing-screen reproduction of around 100 inches, just 2ft from the wall. The image processing handles 1,920x1,080 (Full HD) visuals with aplomb—it’s sharp, the colours look good, and fast-moving visuals are smooth. Any potential artefacts and distortions are largely eliminated, and you get a clean picture to view.
This should work well for regular TV too. The moment you switch to authentic 4K content, the BenQ W11000 projector comes into its own. The brightness is more than adequate for a moderately lit room; the sharpness is fantastic and the colours are well distinguished. This is one of the few projectors that supports the Rec. 709 HDTV colour standard, and that makes a difference.
If you are looking for a premium home theatre experience, you need to invest in the future-proofed BenQ W11000 projector. Fire up the Netflix and Amazon Video subscriptions, and you may never again feel the urge to go to a cinema hall.
