Goa BJP passes resolution to make Manohar Parrikar CM
NEW DELHI: Manohar Parrikar may again become the Chief Minister of Goa as state BJP today passed a resolution to make Parrikar the CM face in the state after getting support of two regional parties.
According to some reports, the formal announcement in this regard may be made later in the day today.
According to reports, BJP is also likely to stake claim to form government in the state under the leadership of Manohar Parrikar as Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Goa Forward Party (GFP) having 3 seats each have extended support to BJP.
"The people want Parrikar to come back to Goa. Now it will depend on the Goa Forward Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. If they support us, we will form the government in the state," BJP legislator Michael Lobo, who got elected from Calangute constituency, said.
"Goa had witnessed tremendous development in last five years and a Chief Minister like Manohar Parrikar is required to take it ahead," Lobo said.
As no party secured a majority, the BJP and the Congress are locked in a post-poll battle to secure the support of smaller parties and form the government.
In the 40-member Goa Assembly, BJP has 13 seats; Congress 17; Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), the Goa Forward Party (GFP) and the independents won three seats each; while the NCP has one seat.
Meanwhile, the state unit is waiting for the decision of the central leadership on CM candidate, which is expected to happen later this evening.
Parrikar led the party to victory in the 2012 assembly election, and Goa unit wants him to return to Goa as the chief minister.
