BJP’S manifesto in Uttar Pradesh

Farmers: Agricultural loans to be waived; farm irrigation scheme to be started with a special focus on Bundelkhand; food processing parks to be set up

Populist measures: Laptops to be provided to all students with 1GB, free WiFi in universities; free education up to Class XII

Social sector: Garib Kalyan card to be introduced; 24-hour electricity in Uttar Pradesh with subsidized rates for poor; 100 fast-track courts to be set up for women

Law and order: Complaints to be registered in 24 hours; 100 helpline to be upgraded; special task force to tackle illegal mining; district level teams to be formed to check exodus of people due to communal violence

Employment: No interview for Classes III and IV UP government jobs to end corruption in recruitment; create jobs for seven million people; vacant government posts to be filled

Industry: Set up a start-up incubator and a venture capital fund worth Rs1,000 crore, apart from 25 new medical colleges

BJP’S manifesto in Uttarakhand

Farmers: Push towards organic farming; disburse interest-free crop loans

Populist measures: Distribution of free laptops and smartphones for meritorious students; free education up to post-graduate level for girls from economically weaker sections; free WiFi in all state-based universities

Social sector: Twenty four-hour electricity supply; building boarding schools for girl students; begin air ambulance service

Law and order: Create anti-corruption cell; appoint lokayukta (ombudsman) in 100 days

Employment: Ensure jobs are provided to the youth; curb migration from the hills

Industry: River projects to tap the state’s huge hydro-electricity potential without interrupting the flow of rivers; give a boost to tourism including medical tourism by putting up health resorts, yoga and ayurvedic centres

Congress’s manifesto in Punjab

Farmers: Loan waiver for farmers; free power to farmers to be continued; increase in crop insurance and compensation

Populist measures: Free smartphones with Internet, laptops; free house or 5 marla land to homeless families

Social sector: Increase in job reservation for other backward classes from 12% to 15%; loan waiver for minorities for self-employment activities; unemployment allowance of Rs2,500 per month

Law and order: Drug supply—distribution and consumption—to end in four weeks; free rehabilitation with skill training initiatives at de-addiction centres

Employment: Job in every household through the creation of jobs over the next five years; 33% reservation for women in all government jobs, including contractual appointments

Industry: Tax regime to be made transparent along with a five-year tax relief for women entrepreneurs; make Punjab corruption-free; creation of a new land bank for industrial development.
