Samajwadi Party will come back to power: Shivpal Yadav

LUCKNOW: Roaring in the voice of Amitabh Bachchan and putting himself firmly in the limelight, Shivpal Singh Yadav in a video on Sunday promised to make the Samajwadi Party recover and come back to power.

This seems a precursor to the Yadav family feud breaking out again with demands expected to rise from the Shivpal camp asking Akhilesh Yadav to return the party's reins to Shivpal and Mulayam Singh Yadav after the massive loss to the BJP in the UP elections. Shivpal and Mulayam will be celebrating Holi together in Saifai village on Sunday and Monday and are expected to return to Lucknow on Tuesday to "assess" the reasons for the loss, sources close to Shivpal Yadav said. Scenes from Saifai showed a ecstatic Shivpal Yadav playing Holi on Sunday and saying that winning and losing is a part of politics.

"Hum jeet ke haare hain, hum phir ladke jeetenge (We won and we lost, we will fight and win again)," said the short video released by Shivpal Yadav and featuring him extensively, in which Amitabh Bachchan has recited some motivational lines for the party. The video, firmly focussed on Shivpal and Mulayam Singh Yadav, has only a fleeting shot of Akhilesh Yadav. The lines recited by Bachchan go like: "paapiyon ko haq nahin ki le pariksha teri, tu kis liye hataash hai, chal tere vajood ki samay ko bhi taalash hai (the evil do not have a right to test you, why are you disillusioned. Time is searching for your identity)".

Sources close to Shivpal said he and Mulayam were in agreement that Akhilesh Yadav should relinquish the post of national president of the party for Mulayam since he had promised to do the same after the elections. Shivpal Singh Yadav would wish his state president post back. Knives are also expected to be out for Ram Gopal Yadav on the way Shivpal and Mulayam were dislodged from their posts on January 1. Both Shivpal and Mulayam had objected to an alliance with the Congress, which has proved to be a disastrous alliance. Mulayam visited the Janeshwar Mishra trust building in Lucknow on Sunday, where Akhilesh also arrived, before the SP patriarch left for Saifai. The building served as the SP war room too.

Sources close to Shivpal said he was happy over his big win from Jaswantnagar seat even as SP had lost half the seats on its backyard districts to the BJP. "He won on his own might despite the Modi wave. While Akhilesh has failed, Shivpal won his seat. Now it is time for Shivpal and Mulayam to take back control of the party and rebuild it as Akhilesh has had his way so far and did his experiment, only to fail," a source said.
