Seoul: South Korea's Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye on Friday, removing her from office over a graft scandal that has gripped the country for months.
Park, 65, becomes the country's first democratically elected leader to be ousted from office. A presidential election will be held in 60 days, according to the constitution.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye was officially removed from office on Friday after the country's Constitutional Court upheld her impeachment over a wide-ranging corruption scandal.

1974: Park's mother is killed by a bullet fired by a pro-North Korea assassin trying to kill her father, President Park Chung-hee. Park became acting first lady.
1979: Park's father is assassinated by his disgruntled spy chief.
