Three more study chairs at varsities

The state government will set up three study chairs at two varsities in the state, Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy has said.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, the minister said that Kittur Rani Chennamma and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna study chairs would be set up at Rani Chennamma University in Belagavi while Brahmasri Narayanaguru study chair would be set up in Mangalore University.

He said that study chairs/research centres in the name of all the great sharanas, social reformers and saints will be established to spread their message to the future generation.

He said that a proposal had been submitted to the chief minister for sanctioning 100 colleges in the budget.

The minister said that irregularities to the tune of Rs 500 crore had been unearthed in the works taken up by various varsities across the state. Committees comprising additional deputy commissioner, superintending engineer of PWD and finance officer of the zilla panchayat of respective districts have been probing the violations.
