ONGC inks MoU to build 300-bedded multi-speciality hospitals in Assam

GUWAHATI: ONGC has inked MOU with Aurangabad based, Babasaheb Ambedkar Vaidyakiya Pratishtan (BAVP) to build 300 beded multi specialty hospitals in Assam.

BAVP, which is an RSS affiliated organization, runs a hospital in Aurangabad. The size of the project is Rs 313 Crore.

ONGC board has approved setting up a hospital at Sibsagar in Upper Assam, which will be developed in three phases. Already ONGC board has sanctioned Rs 99.09 Crore towards construction of the first phase of the hospital.

ONGC has in 2008 announced that it will setup multi specialty hospital in its production area of Sibsagar. According to ONGC despite floating expression of interest the company did not get requisite response.

ONGC’s officiating CMD, Sashi Sankar who was in Guwahati said that this project is a commitment of the company.

BAVP runs 400 beded Hedgewar Hospital in Aurangabad. Dr Anant Pandhare, medical director of the hospital and secretary of BAVP said, “We are a RSS affiliated organization and service is our motto. We will give back whatever little we will earn in these project. Not a single penny will be taken outside Assam. The first phase of the hospital is expected to start by July 2019.”

Pandhare said, “Availability of hospital bed is far below the required. People of Sibsagar and adjoining areas have to travel to Dibrugarh, Guwahati or outside the state for treatment.”
