Samsung hands over its Tab IRIS to Karnataka Health Dept

has entered into a partnership with to help the state efficiently manage its public healthcare facilities.

As part of the agreement, Research & Development Institute, Bangalore (SRI-B) handed over 1,000 Tab to the Department of Health, of Karnataka, a release said.



Tab IRIS, the first commercial tablet to be approved by UIDAI for Aadhaar and KYC verification, would enable Public Health Centers (PHC) in the state to build their database in a digital format, it said.

This association is aimed towards providing advanced technological support in the management of medical subsidies and operations at PHCs in the state more efficiently, the statement said.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between R&D Institute, Bangalore and Health and Family Welfare Department, of Karnataka, it added.

"The advanced of Tab will give a digital boost to the whole healthcare system. This will enable Public Health Centers to maintain and share medical databases on a real time basis," said Dr Aloknath De, Chief Officer, R&D Institute.

Tab is SIM enabled and has the capability to scan the of an individual, which can then be linked to Aadhaar, the statement said.

This would help PHCs to generate various value added reports to facilitate decision making by the Health Department, it added.

This integration of with the help of Tab IRIS, aims to centrally consolidate information related to PHC administration such as patient treatment, diagnosis, deliveries and drug availability from various locations along with GPS information, the statement said.

"We are confident that Samsung's world class will help us manage our public healthcare facilities more efficiently. Digitizing the database is very important for our public health centers as it will lead to better planning and decision making at a state as well as central level," Health and Family Welfare Minister Ramesh Kumar said.

"We aim to connect with each and every resident of at their door steps by upgrading the skills of our field staff and equip them with high tech Tabs. We are grateful to for associating their program with Karnataka," he added.

"In the days to come the state will have Virtual Clinics with specialists on board connected to patients through these Tabs,the minister said.

"The health records of patients would be analyzed online to take effective steps towards prevention of diseases. Audio visual awareness will also be enhanced through the use of these Tabs," Dr Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, said.

Samsung India has collaborated with Karnataka Government for a two-day 'School Kit Programme' that aims to extend support to students from government schools across Bengaluru, Dodballapura, Kolar and Mulbaghal districts in the state. "At Samsung, our aim is to cater to the needs of our consumers with meaningful innovations and quality products. We will also like to give back to the society, thereby reaching out to less-privileged students within the Indian society. Today, we have been able to reach out to more than thirty thousand students," Samsung R&D Institute Managing Director Dipesh Shah sai in a statement here. Volunteers from Samsung R&D Institute, Bengaluru visited more than 500 schools and distributed essential items to more than thirty thousand students over two days, the statement said. The stationery items distributed among students included 3,000 dictionaries, 14,000 stationery pouches, 300 bags, 18,000 exam pads and geometry boxes, it has entered into a partnership with to help the state efficiently manage its public healthcare facilities.
